Dear All!

The JU Doctoral School in the Humanities organizes an annual academic event named Research Symposium. During this conference, PhD students present, in the form of twenty-minute papers delivered in English, a chosen research problem that they are developing within the framework of their own individual doctoral projects.

We strongly encourage all persons currently pursuing their second year of education at our Doctoral School to attend this year’s conference. Those who, for serious reasons, cannot participate in the Research Symposium in 2024, will be obliged to attend the event in the following academic year. Please, note, that presenting a paper at the Research Symposium is one of the conditions for completing the education at JU Doctoral School in the Humanities.

Schedule
 

► by 12 May 2024: submission of an abstract (approx. 250-300 words, in English), presenting the content for a 20-minute paper (the paper should focus on a research problem, directly related to the PhD project).

Please note: abstracts of presentations should include information about the program in which the doctoral project is being carried out, and should be sent as Word attachments to:

► by 20 May 2024: feedback from doctoral program coordinators, including confirmation of acceptance (with comments and possible suggestions regarding the framing of the topic);

► 13 – 15 June 2024: Research Symposium (the conference will be held in English, at the Doctoral School's venue, Main Market Square).

Dear All!

You are cordially invited to participate in the conference Wartime Documentation: Literature, Memoirs, and Testimonies, which will take place on April 22–24 in Kyiv and on the Zoom platform. This event is organized by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in cooperation with the University of Massachusetts. The aim of the conference is to examine the place and significance of literature in the context of the current conflict in Ukraine but also of narratives about war in general.

To participate in the events (in person or online), fill out the Google form by April 21, 2024.

Dear All!

On behalf of the Department of International Student Services, we are pleased to announce the start of recruitment for trips for doctoral students under the Erasmus+ Partner Countries Program (KA171). 

As part of the trip, a doctoral student has the opportunity to carry out an exchange in the summer semester of the 2024/2025 academic year at one of the three partner universities:

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia) - 1st place
University of Jordan (Jordan) - 1st place
Université International De Rabat (Morocco) - 1st place


During the trip, the doctoral student has the opportunity to participate in courses offered at the host university, as well as to pursue his or her own research and academic plans. Each doctoral student qualified for the exchange will receive a stipend of 700 EUR per month + 360 EUR (travel expenses subsidy).

Recruitment documents must be submitted by April 22, 2024. Recruitment details can be found on the website of the Department of Foreign Student Services.

I am pleased to announce that on April 24-30, 2024, we will be hosting Professor Patrick Leech from the University of Bologna, who will offer a Masterclass entitled Issues in Critical Heritage Studies: Managing Dissonance (the description is available HERE ► /documents/142297268/0/Issues_Masterclass_final.pdf/7cd7c002-8933-4af6-86f2-d13e09d9bc3c).

Please note that the first part of the Masterclass will be stationary (12 hours), while the second part will take place in the form of individual consultations with Professor Leech (8 hours to be used by all interested PhD Students).

 

For active participation in the masterclass you will receive 2 ECTS (block negotiable, in accordance with the requirements of the doctoral program).

 

This is a unique opportunity to meet and cooperate with a renowned scholar, an expert in both the theory of heritage (with particular emphasis on 'dissonant heritage') and translation studies. Prof. Patrick Leech is a member of the Self-Steering Committee in Cultural Heritage of the European University Una Europa, which jointly runs the Una-Her-Doc doctoral program in heritage studies (short biographical note of Prof. P. The Nationaler announces the PRELUDIUM 23 competition for research projects, intended for researchers without a doctoral degree.
 The competition offers a maximum grant of PLN 70,000, PLN 140,000 or PLN 210,000 to finance a project lasting 12, 24 or 36 months, respectively.   

A workshop on the preparation of the application will be organized soon, which will be announced at a later date.

  1. Ms. Katarzyna Ciemiera - "The Political Potential of the Poetic Voice. Consequences of listening to Polish poetry in the audiovisual culture of the 21st century" (No. 2023/49/N/HS2/02551; panel HS2, second position on the ranking list).
  2. Ms. Jolanta Bujas-Poniatowska - "Bands at churches and other Roman Catholic institutions at the beginning of the 19th century in the Polish lands" (the project will be carried out in 2024-2026).

 were funded by the National Science Center in the competition PRELUDIUM 22 !
